# Create, edit and delete custom categories



### What are custom categories?

| This feature is available on [Emma Pro](https://help.emma-app.com/en/article/what-is-emma-pro-b9k15u/) and [Emma Ultimate](https://help.emma-app.com/en/article/what-is-emma-ultimate-mob29/) 🐻

||| You can't remove or edit default categories.

Custom categories allow you to create transaction categories that make sense to you. 

Creating new categories gives you more unique, custom options to [categorise your transactions](https://help.emma-app.com/en/article/change-a-transaction-category-iipyy2/). You can also set budgets against these new categories. 

To create a custom category, follow the steps below: 


### Creating a custom category

1. Select a transaction
2. Tap on the assigned Category that shows **Change Category** 
3. Select **Add New**
4. Choose a name and emoji to represent your new custom category and press **Save**
5. Click **Create Custom Category** to confirm 
6. You're all done 💪

### Deleting a custom category

1. Select a transaction
2. Tap on the assigned Category that shows **Change Category** 
3. Hold your finger down on the Custom Category you want to delete
4. Tap  **Delete this category** 
5. Select **Yes, let's do it**

### Editing a custom category

1. Select a transaction
2. Tap on the assigned Category that shows **Change Category** 
3. Hold your finger down on the Custom Categories you want to edit
4. Choose  **Rename** or **Update Emoji**
