# How can I split a payment in Emma Groups?

When adding a payment in Emma Groups, you can choose from three different ways to split the cost among participants:

1. **Amount (Default)** – The total is split equally between everyone in the group by default. You can adjust each person's share if needed.
    
2. **Percentage** – You can assign custom percentages to each participant. The total must always add up to 100%.
    
3. **Unit Shares** – This option lets you split the cost based on how many “units” each person consumed or used. For example, if someone had 2 units and someone else had 1, the cost would be split 2:1.

You can switch between these modes when entering or editing a payment, so it’s easy to handle everything from rent to dinner bills.
