# How do I settle payments in a Group?

Emma’s **Settle** feature makes it super easy to split expenses with friends and close the loop on who owes what. Once you’ve all added your expenses to a Group, Emma can automatically calculate the simplest way to settle up — saving you the headache of figuring it out manually.

#### Here’s how it works:

1. **Tap into your Group** from the Feed.
    
2. Tap the **“Settle”** button.
    
3. Emma will instantly calculate the most efficient way to pay each other back.
    
4. You’ll see a summary of who should pay whom — and for how much.

Behind the scenes, Emma looks at everyone’s total balance and finds the smartest way to reduce the number of payments needed. It does this by:

* Matching the person who owes the most with the person who’s owed the most.
    
* Settling as much as possible between them.
    
* Repeating this process until everyone is squared up.

This way, you avoid a mess of unnecessary transactions — and everyone gets paid back fairly.
