# How do joint bank accounts work in Emma?

When you connect a joint account to Emma, all transactions made by both account holders will be included in your budgeting and analytics.

Joint account providers do not share information about which cardholder made each transaction. This means we’re unable to filter or separate spending between account holders.

# What if I don’t want joint spending to affect my main budget?

If you’d like to connect a joint account but keep it separate from your main budgeting and analytics, you can use the [Spaces](https://help.emma-app.com/en/article/emma-spaces-170x1at/) feature.

**Spaces** allow you to:

* Move the joint account into a separate Space
* Prevent those transactions from impacting your main Space
* Share the Space with another Emma user

If the other joint account holder uses Emma, you can both view and edit transactions in the shared Space, while keeping your personal spending separate and private.
