# How is interest calculated?

| Emma Pots are only available to UK-based customers.

Most of our Pots generate interest, though the rate depends on the type of Pot you choose and your current Emma subscription plan.

The AER, or Annual Equivalent Rate, shows what you'd earn in interest from different savings accounts over a year. The percentage shown isn't what you'll earn daily based on your current savings.

For example, if you had £1,000 in savings with a rate of 3% AER, you'd earn £2.50 in a month and £30 over a year.

###### When Does Interest Start Accruing?

You'll begin earning interest no later than the first business day following the day your money arrives with the bank.

* If you send money to an Easy Access Pot on Monday, but the bank doesn't receive it until Wednesday, you'll start accruing interest no later than Thursday.
* If you send the money on a day the bank is closed, it may not receive your money until the next working day.

###### Interest Payment Schedule

Interest is calculated daily, but the payout schedule differs by Pot type:

* **Easy Access and 45 Day Notice Pots**: interest is paid and credited to your Pot daily, Tuesday through Saturday. Your Tuesday payment will be slightly higher, since it takes into account interest accrued on Sunday and Monday.
* **Super Pot**: interest is calculated daily but paid and credited to your Pot monthly.

If the daily interest generated is less than £0.01, it won't be displayed on your account. It'll continue to accrue in the background and become visible once it reaches the £0.01 threshold.

###### Withdrawing from a 45 Day Notice Pot

When you withdraw from a 45 Day Notice Pot, you'll still earn interest on the withdrawal amount until you're able to withdraw the cash at the end of the notice period.
