# Smart Rules

| This feature is available on [Emma Pro](https://help.emma-app.com/en/article/what-is-emma-pro-b9k15u/) and [Emma Ultimate ](https://help.emma-app.com/en/article/what-is-emma-ultimate-mob29/) 🐻

Behold, Smart Rules! 💥

Smart Rules allow you to link your [Offline Accounts](https://help.emma-app.com/en/article/create-offline-accounts-u7c11r/) with regular transactions. Once linked, Emma can automatically add transactions and change the balance of your Offline Account.

###### How does it work?

When you make a transaction to an account not linked in Emma, the transfer will be detected automatically and will show on your Offline Account.

**Example:**

You have a savings account you're tracking in Emma using the [Offline Account](https://help.emma-app.com/en/article/create-offline-accounts-u7c11r/) feature.

Every month, you transfer £20 from your Current/Checking account to this Savings account.

Rather than having to manually update your Offline Savings account balance, Emma will automatically detect this transfer and create a £20 transaction in your Offline Savings account, and update the balance by £20.

###### Setting up a Smart Rule

1. Go to the **Feed** tab
2. Tap your profile in the top left
3. Select **Account**
4. Select **Smart Rules**
5. Select **Add New**
6. Enter the required information

You can find the **Reference** required to set up a Smart Rule by finding the most recent transaction in the Recent Transactions section of the Emma Feed tab, selecting it, and scrolling down to the very bottom of the transaction screen - this is the name of the transaction your bank sends to us.

###### Are Smart Rules retroactive?

No, they are not. Smart rules will only work with future transactions.
