Can my investments fluctuate outside of trading market hours?

You may notice your investment value fluctuates outside of trading hours due to pre-market and after-hours trading or the currency exchange for USD to GBP.

Emma, like most other platforms, does not allow you to trade outside market hours, but you may see your investments fluctuate by trading activity during these times.

What is pre-market trading?

Pre-Market trading refers to the trading activity that occurs before the official market opening hours. In traditional stock markets like the New York Stock Exchange (NYSE) and NASDAQ, the regular trading hours typically start at 9:30 AM ET and end at 4:00 PM ET (2:30 pm – 9:00 pm GMT) on weekdays. However, some brokerage platforms allow traders to place orders and trade securities before the official market opening.

What is after-hours trading?

After-Hours trading, also known as Extended Hours trading, occurs after the regular market closes for the day. As with Pre-Market trading, After-Hours trading is facilitated by certain brokerage platforms and it allows investors to continue trading outside the standard market hours.

In summary, Pre-Market and After-Hours Trading are extended trading sessions that allow certain investors to buy and sell securities outside of the regular market hours.

Currency volatility

You may also see fluctuations due to the currency exchange rate from USD to GBP as the investments are held in USD.
