Why do I see a privaterelay email address linked to my Emma account?

If you're seeing an unfamiliar email address that looks like abc123@privaterelay.appleid.com, don’t worry — your account hasn’t been hacked.

This is called Apple Private Relay, a privacy feature from Apple that hides your real email address when you sign up for apps using "Sign in with Apple." It helps keep your personal email private and forwards messages from Emma to your real inbox.

🔐 What is Apple Private Relay?

Apple Private Relay is part of Sign in with Apple. When you choose this option, Apple creates a unique, random email address that looks something like:

abc123@privaterelay.appleid.com

This private email forwards to your actual Apple ID email — so you still receive all your Emma emails, but we never see your true address.

Where can I find my real email?

To find your real email:

Open the Settings app on your iPhone or iPad.

Tap your Apple ID name at the top.

Go to Password & Security > Apps Using Apple ID.

Select Emma — you'll see whether you're hiding your email and what your real email address is.

Can I change my email in Emma?

Yes! If you’d prefer to use your real email (or another one) with Emma:

Open the Emma app.

Go to Settings > Account > Personal Details > Email.

Update your email address and follow the confirmation steps.
